Corcomroe Abbey

Corcomroe Abbey, the Burren, Co Clare

Dating from the end of the 12th century, the monastery was commissioned by local chieftain Conor O’Brien who, on the completion of the abbey, had the masons killed in order that that they could never build anything to rival it.
